I've always loved art, but there was always one thing that bothered me about it.
A painting hangs on a wall.
A sculpture sits on a shelf.
A sculpture sits on a shelf.
You admire it, maybe even love it, but it stays exactly where you left it.
Jewellery is different.
It gets worn on first dates, road trips, bad days, weddings, coffee runs, and random Tuesdays. It gets scratched, knocked around, forgotten on bedside tables, rediscovered months later, and somehow becomes tangled up in your story.
That's the kind of art I fell in love with.
Art that comes with you.
Sturley was born from that idea.
The name combines Stur (stubborn) and Ley (inspired by ley lines, the invisible connections said to run through the landscape). Together they became Sturley. Stubborn connections.
I believe jewellery made with intention becomes part of those connections.
Most of my pieces are handcrafted from recycled silver using lost wax techniques. Sometimes they're carved in wax before being cast, sometimes cast in sand, but every piece starts the same way: with an idea and a lot of stubbornness.
Speaking of stubbornness...
The purple donkey you'll see popping up around Sturley isn't random.
Donkeys are famously stubborn, and if you asked the people closest to me, they'd probably tell you that's a trait I know a thing or two about. The purple part? That's just because life is more fun when things don't take themselves too seriously.
The donkey has become a reminder of what Sturley is all about: staying true to your own path, embracing a little fun, and finding joy in things that are made with heart.
I hope these pieces find their way into your daily rotation.
I hope they come along for adventures big and small.
And I hope, years from now, they're carrying memories you haven't even made yet.
